Living in London, Ontario: Festivals, Music, Culture, and Family Fun

There’s always something fun to do on the weekends in London. Sunfest, a world music festival, is Canada’s second largest and makes the list for being one of the top 100 summer destinations in all of North America. Other festivals include the London Fringe Theatre Festival, The London Rib-Fest (second largest bbq festival in North America), Rock the Park, and even a festival all about chalk street painting!

The London Symphonia continues to bring the sounds of classical music to local residents; the London Community Orchestra, London Youth Symphony and the Amabile Choirs of London also regularly hold concerts. Music geeks can rejoice: the Nihilist Spasm Band, true pioneers of noise music, formed here in 1965 — and helped give the city’s York Hotel both a name and a devoted following. The York Hotel is now Call the Office — alternative music and college bands continue to hit the stage here. For the theatre buffs, the London Community Players and The Original Kids Theatre Company can’t be missed.
